“This is one of the easiest damn southpaws Floyd is going to have a fight with. Man, Pacquiao, come on, man. I’m just trying to tell you, they gonna see when it’s time to go in the ring. Ain’t nothing to talk about. Floyd right now can definitely outthink him. Outthinking him ain’t even the problem…Lookie here, man, he don’t ever move his head. If people don’t see that, shit! Pacquiao has no footwork, he blocks with his face, and he can’t even spell defense…He’s the most hittable man in the world. You gonna see that. You gonna get a chance to see exactly what I’m talking about. Floyd gonna hit him so easy. Floyd will dominate him bad. He gonna paralyze him. Floyd got a good chance of knocking him out,” stated world-class trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., who shared his thoughts on Manny Pacquiao and the upcoming May 2 mega-fight. Check it out!
BT: Big Floyd, obviously a lot of fans are excited about this fight between your son and Manny Pacquiao. They’ve been waiting a long time for it. Now that it’s actually been finalized and announced, how do you feel about it?
FMSR: Listen man, the fight could’ve really done been on a long time ago. We done been talked about that. It’s just the whole thing is, man, Bob Arum been in the way. A lot of people don’t know it, but Bob Arum been in the way. To be honest, man, I’m not excited like everybody else is excited. I’m not excited like that. I’ma tell you why I ain’t even excited; because I already know what it’s going to be and what’s going to happen. It’s already done. It’s done!
BT: So you don’t think it’s going to live up to the hype that people are expecting?
FMSR: It’s nothing like that. This is going to be a one-sided deal, man. Pacman gets his ass whooped, simple! I’m just telling you what it is. If he ain’t doing what he been doing with these other fighters, if he ain’t doing that, then hey, he don’t have a living chance on this planet.
BT: Do you think this is an opportunity for your son to really make a statement and silence his critics once and for all?
FMSR: Oh, definitely! That’s what this whole thing is all about because it’s the biggest fight ever. He’s going to shut mouths, believe me. He’s going to shut a whole bunch of mouths.
BT: Do you think Floyd needed this fight, or a rival like Pacquiao, in order to define his legacy?
FMSR: To be honest with you, man, Floyd done already made his legacy. To be honest, I mean, don’t get me wrong about the Pacquiao thing because I’m not scared about that at all. Everybody all hyped and geeked, they will see how easy this fight is going to be. I’m just telling you right now and I’m saying this right now, ain’t no way he can whoop Floyd. That’s that. He can forget it. He can bite the bone because that’s what he’s going to do; hit the fuckin’ ground.
BT: When you see Pacquiao today compared to where he was 5 or 6 years ago, do you see any decline in his skills or does he look like the same fighter he’s always been?
FMSR: Let me tell you something, man. What I see is, first of all, the man ain’t knocked nobody out in five years. He ain’t knocked nobody out in 5 years, and the same guy that knocked his ass ice cold, for 12 rounds, Floyd beat him 12 rounds easy. So man, if he was struggling with Marquez then, that boy ain’t got a chance in hell. I’m just telling you the truth, man. It is what it is.
BT: I never realized how much smaller Pacquiao is than your son until I saw the two of them meet for the first time at that Miami Heat game.
FMSR: Well he’s going to look smaller than that when Floyd gets through with his ass. We gonna chop him down some more.
BT: Lately, it seems like Manny is trying to be a more technical fighter. He’s starting to think a lot more inside the ring. Personally, I don’t think that would be a good strategy for them to use, but…
FMSR: [Cutting in] Who in the hell in boxing right now can outthink Floyd Mayweather Jr.? Anyone that you know? If this son of a bitch tries to outthink Floyd, man, he going to get the hell beat out of him. Believe me! I’m telling you. If that man stop doing his little hopping in and hopping out, when that man stops doing that and starts trying to think, hey, trust me, he’ll think he’ll be waking up.
BT: Did you see his last fight against Chris Algeiri?
FMSR: Man, he fought an amateur. That was an amateur fight. That guy can’t whoop no damn body, man, shit. Man, lookie here, that made me want to get back into boxing, shit, looking at some shit like that. Shit, I’d go whoop that guy right now. Believe me!
BT: The one thing I did take away from Algieri’s performance that night was that it seemed like he was able to land his right hand several times.
FMSR: Well guess what? He may have landed it, but we know somebody that’s going to land it a whole bunch of times, and it might be a short night when he starts landing them. To be honest, the southpaws are taylor-made for right hands. Floyd’s right hand is just as fast as his left hand, so trust me, it’s going to happen.
BT: In the past, people have said that Floyd has trouble with southpaws. Do you think that…
FMSR: [Cutting in] This is one of the easiest damn southpaws Floyd is going to have a fight with. Man, Pacquiao, come on, man. I’m just trying to tell you, they gonna see when it’s time to go in the ring. Ain’t nothing to talk about. Floyd right now can definitely outthink him. Outthinking him ain’t even the problem. He gonna be thinking the wrong way. When he gets to thinking, Floyd already done thought about it. Pacquiao ain’t never been no thinker, man. He’s just in and out, in and out, a little bit of punches, and he jumps in and out. When he jumps in and out on Floyd, he gonna run into something because Lil’ Floyd gonna have it already set up. It’s been set up. As a matter of fact, it’s set up today already; we just waiting to throw it.
BT: One thing we’ve never really seen from Pacquiao is an inside fighting game. Do you think…
FMSR: (Cutting in) That is so true. He’s so damn short, you ain’t never seen nobody go downstairs and hit him in the body either. But see, it’s time for us to change things. Nobody did it, but I guess we gonna have to be the first ones that did it. Lookie here, man, he don’t ever move his head. If people don’t see that, shit! Pacquiao has no footwork, he blocks with his face, and he can’t even spell defense.
BT: You and Freddie Roach have had some animosity in the past. As a trainer, what’s it like for you knowing that you’re about to face one of your rivals?
FMSR: Well, you know, this is going to be just like Floyd Sr. fighting Freddie Roach; the joke coach Roach I’m talking about. This thing with Manny, it’s going to be the same type of thing. The joke coach Roach ass woopin’. The same way I would’ve did Freddie Roach then, Floyd’s finna do that now. Yeah, believe it!
BT: What kind of sparring partners do you think they might bring in to try and emulate some of the things that Floyd does in the ring? Everyone always mentions someone like Steve Forbes, but…
FMSR: [Cutting in] Steve Forbes probably going to go spar with Pacquiao because Steve Forbes is just like Pacquiao. Steve Forbes needs his and Pacquiao trying to get his. They both trying to get the dollar; they both need the dollar.
BT: Any idea on who you guys might be looking for as sparring partners to emulate what Pacquiao does in the ring?
FMSR: Me knowing Lil’ Floyd, all we need, man, is some left-handers. That’s all we need. All we need is some left-handers to come in and the rest will be done.
BT: Most fans are expecting a close, competitive fight that could eventually lead to a rematch, but it sounds like you think it’s going to be a lopsided, dominant fight for Floyd.
FMSR: Man, believe me, there will not be no need for a rematch. I’m just here to tell you, there will not be no need for a rematch. Right now, Floyd is smarter than Pacquiao, he’s faster than Pacquiao, and like I said, Floyd is just too damn smart for him, period. I’m going to be telling him to jump in his ass and knock him the fuck out, and that way right there, you done shut everybody up and ain’t nothing else to say.
BT: Everything that you guys have gone through over the past six years – the lawsuit, Arum saying Floyd’s a coward, and whatnot – is that added motivation for you guys to really go out there and make a statement on May 2?
FMSR: All we gonna do is be ourself, and being ourself will make us, the Mayweathers, the biggest fighters in the world. That is what it is and can’t nobody change it. Let me tell you this right here, I’ll be honest with you, on the strength of certain things that done happened, Floyd’s going to make him look like a baby. Believe me! Floyd can hit him with a jab and stuff easy, man. He’s the most hittable man in the world. You gonna see that. You gonna get a chance to see exactly what I’m talking about. Floyd gonna hit him so easy. Floyd will dominate him bad. He gonna paralyze him. Floyd got a good chance of knocking him out! Believe me, I’m not joking.
